Our Mission
One verge, one garden and one community at a time.
On the Verge is a community-led greening and gardening project dedicated to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Noordhoek. For more than 17 years, the team has worked throughout the valley — creating and maintaining roadside gardens, planting trees, clearing invasive vegetation, and opening up greenbelts and pathways for the community to enjoy.
But On the Verge is about much more than making Noordhoek beautiful. At the heart of the project are the men who work in the gardens every week. Through training, upskilling, and regular employment, the project supports local families and creates opportunities for the team to find additional work within the neighbourhood.
The cost of maintaining the gardens and keeping the team employed continues to grow — more areas need attention, and prices for plants, equipment, and materials keep rising. Even so, On the Verge is determined to keep going: creating beautiful public spaces, tending the greenbelts and pathways, planting trees, and keeping Noordhoek a place we can all be proud to call home.
