Our Mission

Every week, on the verge

On the Verge is a Noordhoek community greening project that has been tending to the road verges of the valley every week since 2013. Clearing, planting, pruning, weeding — small, faithful work that turns shared roadside space into something worth looking at.

The project was founded by Kathy Fish, who noticed the beautiful verges between Robertson and Ashton and thought her own community deserved the same. “Stop talking about it and do something,” a friend told her. That was 2013 — and a small volunteer team has been out on the verges of Noordhoek ever since.

The work reaches well beyond weeding. Over the years the team has painted historic road verge bridges, dug and planted new flower beds, cleared overgrown horse paths, and planted roadside trees along the main road. Most recently, they built a pedestrian bridge at the end of Katzenellenbogen Road so riders, walkers, dog owners, and cyclists can cross the river more easily.

Keep the verges of Noordhoek growing

Every Rand you give helps keep the weekly work going — the plants, the mulch, the tools, the wheelie-bin full of water for the summer months when a young garden needs it most.
