Our Mission

Rewriting the trajectory

The Champs Programme reaches the “at risk” boys of our communities by teaching lasting life skills and behavioural development. We define “at risk” as 9 and 10-year-old boys on a trajectory to fall through the cracks of society — whether through behavioural challenges, drug use, or educational barriers. All of these are symptoms of deeper issues at home. Champs is designed to rewrite that narrative with restorative principles that guide these boys back to the right path, through three connected interventions: a one-on-one boys programme, a teachers programme, and a parenting programme.

The boys programme is one-on-one, so each child gets the focused attention he deserves. Every craft, lesson, and game is chosen to meet his developmental needs — and to open the door to learning more about his home life, past and present. That opens a second door: for our full-time social worker to engage the parents through meetings or home visits, and find ways to sustainably help the family.

The teachers programme brings support and fresh ideas to the teachers in our communities. Through group sessions we establish an open line of communication and a curriculum that helps them rethink discipline and student engagement. Above all it’s about consistent, relational support — helping teachers feel heard, seen, and understood in a system that can leave them feeling alone.

The parenting programme extends both of the above. Often the desire to grow as a parent is there, but the access to materials and professionals isn’t. Through group settings and one-on-one meetings, we bring information, encouragement, and community to parents who might otherwise be doing this on their own.

All three parts of Champs share one aim: build the support around each child. Restore passion in the teachers who spend their days with them. Bring light into homes in need of a new path.

Help us catch boys before they fall through

Every Rand you give helps build the support around another child — one lesson, one home visit, one conversation at a time.
